  1.      Following are my ratings on 10 Chardonnays and 10 Cabernet Sauvignons in 
  2. the "fighting varietal" category. They were tasted "blind" in flights of five 
  3. at a wine-tasting class taught by Chris Zaborowski, a local wholesaler, at 
  4. Bellarmine College in Louisville on March 28, 1989.
  5.      Prices are full, undiscounted Kentucky retail. Appellation is assumed to 
  6. be California unless otherwise noted. The wines are listed in order of my 
  7. preference within each varietal.

  9.      CHARDONNAY

  11.      VERY GOOD: None.
  12.  
  13.      ACCEPTABLE: 1st - Bel Arbres non-vintage American Chardonnay ($6.29); 2nd 
  14. - Mountain View 1987 Chardonnay ($6.99); 3rd - J. Wile & Sons 1987 Napa Valley 
  15. Chardonnay ($6.99); 4th - Rutherford Estates 1987 Chardonnay ($7.74); 5th - 
  16. Round Hill non-vintage "House" Chardonnay ($7.21); 6th - Domaine St. George 
  17. 1988 Chardonnay ($6.65).

  19.      POOR: 7th - Glen-Ellen 1987 "Proprietor's Reserve" Chardonnay ($6.79); 
  20. 8th - Vendange 1988 Chardonnay ($6.99); 9th - Trakia 1986 Bulgarian Chardonnay 
  21. ($4.20); 10th - Charles LeFranc 1986 Chardonnay ($6.65).
